The shooting of Michael Brown has brought out a lot of emotion inside of him as the shooting reminded him of the death of a family member during an arrest. Rodgers lives with his mother on a street behind the QuickTrip market. "She has barricaded herself in the house and is afraid to come out," he said. "She loves her Pepsi and now I don't know where I am going to get it for her." Michael Brown was apparently unarmed when a Ferguson police officer shot and killed the 18-year-old on Saturday, Aug. 9. Protest continued on the fifth day after the shooting in the Ferguson neighborhoods surrounding the apartment complex where the shooting occurred. The tone of protest changed significantly since the police safety presence was taken over by MO. State Police as requested by Gov. Jay Nixon. Local protesters were encouraged by the leadership of Missouri Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson who has ties to the Ferguson area.
